To be angry or not to be angry?

Mind: *huffs*
Me: What’s wrong?
Mind: Everything.
Me: What’s everything?
Mind: I hate the world and everything in it!
Me: Yeah, I get that.
Mind: Why do people have to be so mean, so full of evil, so selfish, so inconsiderate, so greedy, so full of injustice?!?
Me: I know, I know.
Mind: It makes me so mad!
Me: I know Mind – You’re consumed with it.

Things that make me angry:

  • Injustice of any kind.
  • Not being able to express myself without someone else being upset or defensive.
  • People doing things without asking – Stepping on my boundaries and not respecting them.
  • Having to repeat myself but still not being taken seriously.
  • Fake people.
  • Being expected to get over something quickly.
  • People who misunderstand me or can’t see where I am coming from.
  • Mean girls.
  • Not being given space to breathe.
  • Not having any freedom or it being restricted.

The list can go on, but those are my main ones. I know it’s so unhealthy to dwell on these negative emotions, but anger is a important emotion as it helps us to recognise that there is something wrong or something that we should protect ourselves from. It isn’t good to allow it to overwhelm us or to fixate on or consume us, but just like pain, it is an indicator that there is something we need to address within ourselves or our environment.

Also, dealing with and handling anger is super important. It is so easy to just react to our emotions in negative ways or ways that affect ourselves and others. So when angry, take a minute to reflect, breathe through it and express it in healthy ways; whether it’s venting to yourself or a close, trusted friend, praying, going to the gym or going for a run.
